What reminded the British of 1857 – Bombay Mutiny of 1946
India got its freedom on 15th of August 1947 and
the sole credit for this gigantic feat goes to the persistent and unflinching
passive resistance spearheaded by Mr Gandhi and his dear Mr Nehru. But as a
matter of fact the Britishers were not so done with their hunger for
exploitation neither the passive resistance was something unknown to them.
So, what went so uneasy for them ? why were they in a haste
? and finally what made them realise that they could no longer be the masters ?

Well i am talking about the Bombay mutiny of 1946,which
never appeared on any textbooks and if at all did, it was just lying as a
doormat with no attention. This incident although was the real cap of the
Indian freedom struggle but never got recognisition this incident thwarted the
british mindset of considering Indians subservient by birth.
On 18th of feburary 1946 the Royal Indian Navy
was on complete strike ,the Indian sailors refused to comply with orders but
the strike was called off the very next day only to turn into an open revolt which
spread to 78 vessels,20 locations and included 20000 sailors. The fire which
begun at Bombay quickly spread to other places including Karachi and Calcutta .
The original demands for proper food and proper treatment now also included the release of INA
prisoners , equal wages and equivalence to their british counter parts
The protesting sailors hoisted flags of all the leading
political parties including the INC, muslim league and the communist party to
show unity for the cause and what the
INC and muslim league did was exactly the opposite. The great sage MK Gandhi
said those who have a problem must quit their job and violence as a method of
protest could not be accepted .
On assurances from the INC and Muslim League they returned
back to their ships where they were arrested by the Army gaurds Although the
sailors failed owing to betrayal from the lusty politicians but they made a
loud noise which reached like a bang in the ears of people in power back in
England
