Meeting a PARAM VEER CHAKRA AWARDEE : A LIVING LEGEND
I have always believed that the real heroes of the nation are the soldiers of the country who risk their lives for our security. They are the ones who ensure that the people of the country sleep peacefully in their homes at night while they have to be awake and vigilant at the borders in hail or storm and in extreme weather conditions. These heroes are the one who made me idolize them and aspire to be a soldier myself someday.
One year ago, I went to Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir for a holiday with my uncle who is an army officer. The beautiful place not only offered beautiful scenery to enjoy but a lovely surprise for me which I will cherish for my entire life. We were staying at the Srinagar Army Transit Camp. Army Transit Camp is a place where hundreds of soldiers and officers stay while transiting in and out of the Kashmir valley. I was really excited to see so many soldiers in battle fatigues getting primed to go for action. I got to know that Subedar Yogendra Singh Yadav, the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra award at the age of 19, was also staying in the same transit camp as he had come to attend a felicitation ceremony. Saying that I was happy and thrilled to know this would be an understatement. I was super excited and obviously felt the fan girl symptoms. He had been awarded the PVC in 1999 action during the Kargil war. I expressed my deep desire to meet the brave hero who had fought with such great valour to my uncle who arranged for me to meet the great soldier, an embodiment of courage and bravery. Finally the moment came and here I was, face to face with the hero. I really developed goosebumps on meeting him. I derived extreme pleasure and sense of pride in shaking hands of the unmatched personality. I could not believe my good luck. Despite being a celebrated real life hero, he was a picture of humility and was extremely down to earth.

We talked for a few moments. I t think i would have ever get the same kind of feeling if i get a chance to meet any film star or celebrity. Every soldier who puts his life on the line is a true hero. However, some amazing souls go the extra mile and really reach the stars in their service to their country and for me meeting such a soul in flesh and blood was truly inspiring.
